How do I post a score?
How to Post a Score Using the GHIN Website, GHIN Mobile App, or My MGA App
Posting your score after a round helps keep your USGA/GHIN Handicap current. MGA golfers can post scores through the GHIN website, the GHIN Mobile app, or the My MGA app.
Option 1: Post a score in the My MGA app
The My MGA app is the official mobile app of the Metropolitan Golf Association. It is available for iOS and Android devices and includes score posting, hole-by-hole score entry, performance statistics, and Handicap-related tools.
- Download or open the My MGA app. The MGA page includes links to download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in to your MGA golfer profile using you GHIN Number and last name.
- Select Post Score
- Select the course you played and the tees played.
- Enter the round details Then choose between 18 hole total or hole by hole
- Enter your score. The My MGA app supports hole-by-hole score entry and performance statistics. If your version presents a total-score option, select it when you are entering a total or front-nine/back-nine score.
- Review the course, tees, date, score type, and score.
- Submit the score and wait for the confirmation message.
Option 2: Post a score on the GHIN website
If you are signing in for the first time, you must create a Digital Profile. Select Create Profile on the GHIN website or in the GHIN Mobile app and verify two of the following three items:
- Last name
- GHIN number
- Email address on file
You must have a unique email address associated with your golfer profile. If you do not have an email address on file, contact your club administrator or the MGA for assistance.
- Select Post Score.
- Select the course you played. You may be able to choose a course from your saved or home courses, or search for it by name.
- Select the tees played. Confirm that the course rating, slope rating, par, and yardage match your scorecard.
- Choose a score-entry method:
- Hole-by-Hole: Enter your gross score for each hole. This is the recommended method because the system calculates the appropriate maximum hole score for handicap purposes.
- Hole-by-Hole with Stats: Enter each hole score and optional performance information such as putts, greens in regulation, and fairways hit.
- Total Score or Front/Back: Enter the total score or the score for each nine, if available.
- Enter the round details:
- Number of holes played: 9, 18, or 10–17 when applicable
- Starting hole, if requested for hole-by-hole entry
- Score type: Home, Away, or Competition
- Date played
- Enter your score. Review every entry carefully before continuing.
- Select Post Score and confirm the submission.
Option 3: Post a score in the GHIN Mobile app
- Download and open the official GHIN Mobile app.
- Sign in using your email address or GHIN number and password. Enable Remember Me if you want the app to retain your login information.
- From the home screen, select Post Score.
- Select the course you played. You can usually choose from My Courses, recently played courses, nearby courses, or a course search.
- Select the tees played and verify the displayed course information.
- Choose a score-entry method:
- Hole-by-Hole for the recommended score-entry experience
- Hole-by-Hole with Stats if you want to record performance statistics
- Total Score if you are entering a total or front-nine/back-nine score
- Complete the round setup:
- Select 9 holes, 18 holes, or 10–17 holes when applicable
- Select the starting hole for hole-by-hole entry, if requested
- Select Home, Away, or Competition for the score type
- Select the date played
- Enter your score. For hole-by-hole entry, enter the gross score made on each hole. Add optional statistics when prompted.
- Review the round summary and select Post Score.
- Confirm that the score was submitted successfully.
Which score-entry method should I use?
Hole-by-hole
Hole-by-hole entry is recommended for most rounds. Enter the gross score made on each hole. The system uses the hole scores and course information to calculate the appropriate adjusted score for handicap purposes.
Hole-by-hole with stats
Use this option if you want to track performance information along with your score. Depending on the app or website version, available statistics may include putts, greens in regulation, fairways hit, and driving accuracy.
Total score
Use total-score entry when you are entering the total score or the scores for the front nine and back nine. Make sure any required handicap adjustments are made according to the Rules of Handicapping when using a method that does not calculate them automatically.
Important score-posting reminders- Post the score as soon as possible, preferably on the day you played. This helps ensure that the score is considered in the appropriate daily playing conditions calculation.
- For a 9-hole round, play and post all 9 holes on a rated 9-hole side. Select the correct front nine or back nine when the system asks for it.
- If you played 10–17 holes, use hole-by-hole entry when that option is available. The system needs the hole scores to calculate the score for handicap purposes.
- Select Home when posting a score at the club where you are on the handicap roster. Select Away when posting a score at another course. Select Competition only when the tournament committee or event instructions identify the round as a Competition score.
- Do not post the same round more than once through different platforms.
- Your Handicap Index is updated through Daily Revisions, generally the day after a score is posted.
- Scores can be posted only when the relevant playing season is active. If the system does not allow you to post, check the MGA or USGA active and inactive season schedule.
Troubleshooting
I cannot sign in
Use Forgot Login Information on the GHIN website or in the GHIN Mobile app. If you cannot create a profile, confirm that your club or association has a unique email address on file for you.
I cannot find the course or tees
Search using the course name and verify the state or country. Confirm that you selected the correct number of holes. If the course, tee, par, or course and slope ratings do not match the scorecard, contact the course or the MGA before posting.
I receive an error while entering hole-by-hole scores
The course or tee may not have the required par or stroke-index information in the database. If available, post a total score instead and contact your club or the MGA so the course information can be reviewed.
I made a mistake on a score I posted
Do not post the round again. Contact your club handicap administrator or the MGA for help correcting a posted score. Keep your scorecard available in case additional information is needed.
I do not have an email address on file
You will not be able to create a digital profile or sign in to the GHIN website or GHIN Mobile app until an email address is added to your golfer profile. Contact your club administrator or the MGA for assistance.
